Renee White, Esq., FNP-BC, PNHNP-BC, FN-CSA, has been an Assistant Prosecutor at the Ocean Prosecutor’s Office in New Jersey for thirteen years. She is currently the President Elect of the Ocean County Bar Association and Vice President of the Assistant Prosecutors Association of New Jersey. White has over 20 years of experience in the healthcare field. She has been a registered nurse for sixteen years. She has practiced as an ER nurse for over ten years working in several emergency departments within major corporate healthcare systems. During her emergency room tenure, White was often assigned to the emergency psychiatric hold unit. In that capacity she would frequently care for patients suffering from severe mental illness and people in crisis. She also was responsible for the transfer of patients to other institutions pursuant to the laws governing involuntary civil commitments.
White’s background and experience made her an ideal choice for her current positions within the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office; Director of the Special Offenders Unit (SOU) and Coordinator of the Prosecutor-Led Mental Health Diversion Program and Veterans Diversion Program. White has recently helped coordinate her unit’s logistical adjustment to “virtual” court appearances and processing required by the COVID-19 pandemic. She has also participated in responses to the COVID-19 related onslaught of petitions for release filed on behalf of county jail and state prison inmates. While many community based mental health agencies have stopped seeing patients in person due to the pandemic, White continues to find innovative ways to provide meaningful supervision to her diversion program participants to ensure their mental health needs are met, especially during these unusually stressful times.
Immediately prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, White had started as rotation director/ supervisor for forensic psychiatry, general psychiatry residencies for HMH Ocean Medical Center and HMH Jersey Shore Medical Center. While she was incredibly proud of being given this innovative position, she was faced with having to adapt her program to a “virtual residency” experience while her Prosecutor’s Office was in lock-down status. White quickly created a six-part lecture series to ensure the 10 post-graduate 2nd year psychiatry residents could tune in to view her lectures and have the opportunity to ask questions with meaningful virtual interactions, as well as facilitated a platform wherein her residents can access live court hearings to observe forensic cases litigated in the courtroom.
In addition to her employment at the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, White also works part-time as a nurse practitioner in her local community. She recently started her own practice providing mental health services. In that capacity, White has experience seeing patients via telepsychiatry. When COVID-19 restrictions were implemented, she quickly volunteered to be one of the providers available for urgent care patients, including ones suspected of having COVID-19, via a new telehealth application wherein patients could be seen by a provider without having to physically enter the urgent care center. White will also be working midnight shifts at one or more of New Jersey’s COVID-19 related field hospitals. In addition, to offer support to our first responders, White has joined the executive team of Resilient Minds on the Front Lines which offers tools, resources and instruction to those on the front lines responding to the COVID pandemic. White is certified as a Master Resiliency Trainer for the FBI National Academy Associates. She looks forward to training first responders in resiliency techniques in New Jersey and throughout the country once travel restrictions are lifted.
White earned her B.S. in Criminal Justice and History from Rutgers University in 1998. Thereafter she earned her Juris Doctor from Widener University School of Law in 2001, followed by an A.A.S. from Ocean County College in 2004. White has been an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Ocean County College since 2004, teaching Western Civilization and US History I and II. White graduated with an MSN from Rutgers University in Newark, New Jersey. She currently works part-time at Urgent Care Now in Lacey Township, New Jersey as a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner. White also obtained her Post-Masters Certificate from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner. She is Board Certified in that specialty as well. She is the CEO of Micrennic Health and Wellness LLC as well as Tom Micrennic Forensic Consulting LLC in Little Egg Harbor, New Jersey. White intends to pursue her Doctor of Nursing Practice at Yale University in Fall 2020. She is married to her husband, Brian, and has four children, ages 18, 17, 16 and 10.
